Derwent Stepping Stones

At Derwent Stepping Stones we offer various courses in our Training Department/Community Learning Centre.   The provision we offer is designed to make it easy for local people to get back into education in an informal environment.  The Community Learning Centre is ideal for people who want to try a short course, develop a new skill or find a new hobby/pastime, whilst meeting new people from the local area.

Our courses offer learners the chance to gain qualifications at the level that is right for them.  Courses are offered from Entry Level to Level 2, with support offered from the Training Team for Learners to progress to higher level courses at college or university if they wish.

Our small friendly classes support learners in achieving their personal and/or career goals.  An example could be a learner attending a childcare course to develop their parenting skills, then progressing to an NVQ Level 2 in Early Years Care, which then leads to employment in a Nursery, maybe even in our Nursery at Derwent Stepping Stones!

We offer childcare on-site, in our Nursery.  This allows learners to take part in courses knowing that their children are being well cared for, developing through the activities that are provided, and making their own new friends.

Training Support Workers are available to offer support and guidance to all learners.  Training Support Workers can:

  • Give you information on what each course involves;
  • Help you to choose the course/s that is right for you;
  • Assist you in completing enrolment forms;
  • Organise childcare (childcare can only be provided in Derwent Stepping Stones Nursery where places are available);
  • Help with travel arrangements;
  • Advise and guide you on career progression;
  • Offer daily support to assist you in completing your course.
