Why should I do the course?

What will I be studying?

Literacy skills used in work, study and everyday life, such as:

  • Reading and writing messages, short notes and letters
  • Following instructions e.g. a recipe
  • Understanding signs, symbols, directions and tables
  • Improving spelling, grammar and punctuation

How long will the course last?

Each session lasts between 2 - 3 hours. You will be enrolled onto the course for a 12 week term, at the end of which your progress will be reviewed.

What are the classes like?

Classes are usually small with approximately 10 - 12 learners all working in a friendly and relaxed environment.

What you do next is up to you:

  • Use the skills you learn in work, study or everyday
  • Gain a qualification
  • Continue on the course to further improve your skills

Are there any entry requirements?

Literacy classes are open to everyone - you do not need any previous qualifications or experience. All we ask is that you want to learn.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed continually through the development of an individual learning plan. Qualifications are obtained by completing a short assessment, at your own pace and at the right level for you.

How much will it cost?

There is no fee for Adult Literacy classes.
