Janet Holland
Chief Executive
Janet qualified NNEB in 1986 and has had various positions within childcare, including eight years in under 8s child protection before joining Derwent Stepping Stones in 1998 as Nursery Manager. Janet returned to education and completed BA Hons Degree in Business and Voluntary Sector Management in 2005 and a post graduate certificate in Early Childhood Studies in 2006. Janet is passionate about supporting families and creating the best possible environment for children to thrive. Janet has led a wide variety of initiatives whilst at Derwent Stepping Stones bringing much needed resources into the community.

Janet is currently acting Nursery Manager at St Marks Road

Jenny Seagrave
Deputy Nursery Manager
Jenny began her career in hairdressing but in 2003 moved into her dream job with Derwent Stepping Stones as a Nursery Officer. Jenny completed her NVQ levels 2 & 3 in childcare, learning and development by 2008.

In 2007 Jenny moved into a lead position and in 2014 she became Deputy Nursery Manager. Jenny has extensive safeguarding knowledge and undertakes the Safeguarding Ambassador role for DSS. Jenny is a dedicated and enthusiastic person with a passion for working with children and seeing the difference to outcomes made by high quality childcare and early education.

Jenny is currently undertaking a management and leadership programme with Babington Group.

Nicola James
Site Manager Mackworth
Nicola qualified NVQ Level 3 in 2009 and is due to complete her Foundation Degree in children and young people’s services in 2016. Nicola has had various positions within childcare, including voluntary work within a school and as Senior Nursery Nurse in a baby unit based in a private day nursery. Nicola joined Derwent Stepping Stones in 2011 after returning to work from maternity leave and became a Nursery Officer based at St James Centre. Whilst there Nicola learned about Derwent Stepping Stones’ ethos and drive to provide the highest possible care for our children and decided to take this passion forward in Mackworth.

Nicola is now the Site Manager for Mackworth and enjoys providing quality services and bringing the community together.

Kate Jackson
Early Years Professional
Kate has worked in the childcare sector since 1996 after gaining BTEC National Diploma in Nursery Nursing. Kate came to work at Derwent Stepping Stones as Deputy Nursery Manager in 2005 and has undertaken various leadership roles since then.

Kate is passionate about children’s development and completed BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies in 2007. Kate gained Early Years Professional Status and took on the role of Early Years Professional in 2008. This role was introduced by the government to lead practice across the Early Years Foundation Stage, support and mentor other practitioners and model the skills and behaviours that safeguard and promote good outcomes for children. Kate completed the adult teaching qualification PTLLS in 2011 and delivers training to the staff team.

Kelly Kinson
Site Manager St James Centre
Kelly has worked in the childcare sector since 1998 and qualified in NVQ Level 3 in 2001. Kelly has held various positions in childcare including Pre-school Lead and Deputy Nursery Manager.

Kelly joined Derwent Stepping Stones in 2008 as lead of pre-school. She went on to qualify as an Assessor, getting her TAQA certificate in 2013 which enabled her to support apprentices based within the nursery.

Kelly enjoys learning more about children’s development and how practitioners can support this further, she has completed various projects such as Every Child a Talker (ECAT) during her time at Derwent Stepping Stones.

Kelly is currently undertaking a management and leadership programme with Babington Group.
