St Marks Road nursery in Derby is our Derwent Stepping Stones hub, purpose built for our needs in 2006. It has remained open throughout the Covid-19 pandemic with new ways of working to allow all of the children in our care to continue their early education and for us to support their families with safe and secure childcare. Our aim at this time is to continue to provide children with an early years’ experience that is as close to ‘normal’ as possible, whilst teaching them how to keep themselves and others safe.

The light and spacious rooms at St Marks Road nursery in Derby offer creative free flow and opportunities for children to explore, learn and develop. Our children thrive under the guidance and care of our highly skilled team with lots of exciting and important activities, indoors and outdoors. Our forest garden, which was developed in 2018 by our partners at Pattonair, allows children to explore nature and their own abilities, and to understand our environment all year round.

The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is followed in all rooms with activities developed that follow the children’s interests. Resources align with the curriculum and the team use these resources effectively to create amazing learning experiences. Children have regular shared assessments and staff identify key next steps to support ongoing progression. Our highly qualified, graduate led team offer children aged 0-14 years a fun and stimulating experience that supports them to build the skills they need for the next stage of their learning. Ofsted graded us as Good at the last inspection in August 2018.

During term time, we usually operate a before and after school club for children aged 5-14, with drop-off and collection from local schools. This club has been suspended due to Covid-19, but we hope to reopen it as soon as we can. During school holidays, our Holiday Club opens from 7.30am - 6pm. We plan a full programme of seasonal activities including crafts, cooking and sports, as well as trips to the cinema, roller-skating and local parks.
